You have your brand new website, it is all ready, seoed to the hilt - but you want that one big mention in the national press to trigger the start of your new venture.
You want to get your press release seen by as many people as possible.
There is a lot of services you can submit to here is a list of a few.
A quick word of advice, if you are submitting direct to a magazine or newspaper do your research! Make sure your press release is in keeping with the publication and most of all NEWSWORTHY. Look for similar stories in the publication and make a note of the journalists name. Need a little help, check out a press release writing service like http://lowcostpr.co.uk/
Big hint: If you are emailing press releases yourself DO NOT have the press release as the attachment. Have it all in line in the email. Have a couple of lines of introduction, followed by your name and contact number, followed by the press release text.
If you have more information, PDF or medi pack include a link, but do not attach to the email.

Ok, so I do this occassionally, buy into what can often be seen as spam, where someone offers a submission service, tool, advice for a couple of dollars via an online marketing forum. If done occassionally it is often worth a punt.
Last week a new poster on the A4U forum was offering his google news submission servic, strangely in US dollars for a UK forum, but there you go.
The service was $30 - $15 for a review ‘copy’. Details on A4U here
Doing these type of buy ins can be more educating than useful up front. So I handed over my hard earned (so you don’t have to - there you go you now owe me 20quid) and stated my keywords and link.
Yes all three keywords did end up the the first page of google news, all three made it to page one (one made position three, the other two position 1). The least niche of the 3 is now (6 days later) on page , the other two are mid way on page 1.
Any way, the traffic from this, not alot, the keywords were a little too niche. I should have probably had Credit Cards or Persoanl lonad for this test. Also - the worst thing is that the link achieved was from a third party site. Namely searchbyheadlines.com.
This site is free to post to anyway, I have tried it and it can be fairly easy to get on page one for niche keywords using this service.
As with alot of these types of offerings online, it is all about information rather than any real magic.
It was worth a punt, but would not reuse the service.

The time to act is NOW for Valentines day 2009. Ok Maybe wait untill the brain fog of new years day has passed
So what goes on on Valentines Day. Well amongst other things this one day in the shortest month sees a big peak in marriage proposals.
Of course I am thinking about PurelyDiamonds and their huge array of engagement and wedding rings (Engagement Rings | Diamond Engagement Ring | Wedding Rings | Diamond Pendants | Diamond Studs)
Purelydiamonds produce a vast array of the highest quality rings and other diamond Jewellery at up to 50% off high street prices. (and yes they are passing on the VAT decrease).
Why PurelyDiamonds?
Purelydiamonds offers some wonderful product photography and video of the products. If this weren’t enough to boost conversion rates all items come with a standard 30 day money back guarantee, hugely boosting consumer confidence in purchasing such an exquisitely expensive item online.
If the customer is not quite ready for the full proposal on 14th Feb, there are some amazing deals on the highest quality diamond pendants, bracelets and earrings.
Also think Easter and Mothering Sunday gifts - there are some fantastic gifts that will last alot longer than chocolate (and be alot better for the waist line)
Purely Diamonds offers 7% commission on all jewellery. All prices include delivery and the PurelyDiamonds affiliate program can be found on the Affiliate Window Affiliate Network

There has been alot of talk of inappropriate voucher code use, click to reveal voucher codes and general affiliate abuse of voucher codes.
Well here is the solution for merchants.
It will nullify voucher code fraud, it will mean that any non affiliate vouchers are not abused, it will mean that voucher code fraudsters who display non existant vouches will not get commission after another affiliate has done the pre sale.
ONLY display the voucher code box at the checkout when a visitor has used a URL specific to the vouchercode. This may be a magazine or TV advert, PPC advert, flyer or other. It is your right to have this URL / voucher combination IGNORE the affiliate tracking code from the network.
Many merchants already do this on their PPC campaigns. If the PPC campaign is the last referrer for the sale the sale is not reported to the affiliate network.
So if a user sees your advert and discount code in a magazine /catalogue/on tv or whatever and uses your link - something like merchant-name.xxx/offer a cookie would be triggered to show the vouchercode box on your website. The same cookie would deactivate the affiliate netwrok tracking code. Customer gets the discount, the sale is trackable and the merchant doesnt fork out commission when the user searches for a discount vocher for the product.
When the affiliate link is clicked no voucher code box is shown so customers will not abandon the shopping cart looking for a voucher.
Also the merchant wouldnt lose the sale to a competitior selling the same/similar product when searching for a discount code.

Just through my own personal experiences I thought I would list my favourite affiliate networks so far Christmas 2008. I have excluded a number of indy programs - I have to keep some secrets…
Amazon (I know it is not a network, but it just performs so well)
AffiliateWindow
Paid On Results
All Posters (again not a network, just a VERY lucrative program)
CJ.com
I think that this is a very good list for those new to affiliate marketing, but of course it is not the be all and end all of affiliate programs.
