Affiliate Dogma : Affiliates -> Sales -> Profits

Wanted - One Can Of Worms To Be Opened - Oh Thanks Littlewoods

Discount Vouchers - they are great aren’t they.

How many of us search forums and voucher sites before making a purchase?

Well many vouchers used on sites are actually cribbed of other sites. This can lead to confusion as to who actually ‘owns’ the commission when an affiliate is involved (search for ‘Discount codes’ on A4u and you should see lots of threads).

It is another thing though when a voucher given in good faith to an individual or small amount of deserving people is propagated over the internet.

Littlewoods have just set a precedent by charging a group of customers for using a voucher, whom were not directly issued the voucher.

Littlewoods has angered internet bargain hunters by demanding that an online discount voucher be paid back to the UK retailer.

The £25-off voucher was meant for a small number of specific customers, but got widely distributed through chat rooms and consumer-saving websites.

Two months later, Littlewoods has asked those it says were not eligible for the promotion to pay back the cash.

It says that the terms attached to the offer means it is within its rights.

Read the full news item on the BBC News Site.

So what does this mean for the future?

Discount voucher sites will have to be careful as I don’t see it being too much of a stretch for affected companies to start legal proceedings against sites circulating vouchers.

There are loads of discount vouchers offered to affiliates, affiliates can often get exclusive vouchers by asking nicely, so should they have to start cribbing off other forums and sites?

Expect much debate and blogging over the next few days.

Free Stuff - My Top 5 Open Source Applications

5) osCommerce

I have a sort of love hate relationship with osCommerce, it is a fantasticly powerful, FREE opensource shopping cart software. The bug I have with it is that it does take alot of customisation and plugins to get the application ready for a spacific project. I am now starting to lean towards xcart as software of choice, it is not free - but you get the source code and are able to customise. Again you do need customisation, but you get support (beyond free forums) and there are several great options

4) Drupal

This is my CMS of choice, nice clean with loads of addons. I actually packaged up the software with a selection of great plugins a while ago. It is still available for download from this site

3) FireFox

Ok this is my second browser. Doing website building work I need to get things running in the most popular browser first, then check in FF. Firefox has a fantastic array of plugins and toolbars, and I am probably very guilty of not using FF as much as I should.

2)Word press.

Blog Software, you are looking at an example now.

1) Open Office

Ah yes. Why pay microsoft hundreds when you can get it for free? (There are some very good reasons to use microsoft office, but I will gloss over that just now) Mostly compatible with Microsoft Office, Open Office has a spreadsheet, wordprocessor, database and presentation software that can be used to open, view and edit the microsoft equivelents. The big drawback is that OO is NOT compatable with Microsoft Macros - but has its own macro language.

Even More Commission From Purple Parking!

5% commission for airport parking was a generous commission, back in January this was DOUBLED to a massive 10% commission. We also introduced a premium commission rate for our best publishers - pushing the commission up to an extremely generous 15%. But we are now to improve this commission structure again.

New Purple Parking Commission Tier.

Purple Parking is proud to announce a new commission tier for it’s affiliate program.

We now have a third tier that allows our affiliates to earn even more.

Purple Parking are now offering an extra 2.5% commission on our base rate. This gives a massive 12.5% commission for reaching just 100 sales a month. Plus we are keeping our 15% commission tier for when you reach just 200 sales within one month.

So what does this mean to affiliates?

Previously if you had made 101 sales at 10% commission in one month you would have made around £404 (based on an average sale value of £40), now, at 12.5% commission, you would have made £505, that is an extra £101 in your pocket!

Which Networks Does this Effect?
All of them: CJ, Tradedoubler, Zanox and Affiliate Future.

About Purple Parking
Purple Parking is the UK’s largest airport car parking operator and has been established for over 17 years. We offer car parking at 19 key airport car parks across the UK.

With Purple Parking’s competitive prices we are favoured by many customers travelling from the UK. Air travel is becoming increasingly common and there is tremendous potential for our affiliates. We are constantly striving to improve and expand our services.

How fast is your Broadband, really?

I have been looking at changing broadband provider.

I was thinking of getting a faster package - so I entered my phonenumber into my providers form that calculates my fastest possible speed and I was SHOCKED to read the following

A check on your telephone line shows that the highest speed your line is able to receive is up to 512Kb Broadband.

Beings that I set up the account last year and have been paying for a 2gb service I was shocked. I also checked with BT - they gave me the same reply.

My brothers phone - which is on the same exchange can get 9X that speed!

So I found a broadband speed checker

http://www.speedtest.net/

and tested the actuall speed. I was relieved to see that this is more like what I am paying for than what the ISP’s website said.

The moral of this story kids is to check what you are being given as it may not be what you pay for.
