Image Resizing - Now more than Just Scaling and Cropping
“Content Based Image Retargeting” - What is that?
Dr Shai Avidan and Dr Ariel Shamir (two Israeli computer scientists) have launched this presentation on YouTube in support of their paper on Seam Carving for Content-Aware Image Resizing (Read the Paper - PDF format).
My jaw actually dropped when I saw this, fantastic technology that I am sure we will be seeing much more of in the coming years (months?).
This is true web 2.0 stuff, a new usefull technology for what should be the simple application of resizing an image.
This actually makes the image appear like a real image and not a squashed / streached image when aspect ratio is changed to fit a different page size / page layout.
